From 13 to 15 June, the University of Tartu will host an international academic conference "ICAEM 2025: Mobility in the Ancient Near East and Mediterranean: Movements of People, Objects and Ideas".

The conference is organized as an onsite event in Tartu, Estonia (Lossi street 3, room 328), but sessions will also be streamed via Zoom, to give access to a wider audience. There is no conference fee. Detailed information and the full programme can be found on the conference website.

Keynote speakers include Ian Rutherford (University of Reading), who will discuss Phoenician pilgrimages, and Raz Kletter (University of Helsinki), who will examine the migration of the Danites as described in biblical texts. In total, 35 scholars from 16 countries will present their research.

The conference is organized by the Research Center of Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean Cultures (CAEMC), which is part of the Institute of History and Archaeology. The center is being operated in collaboration with the School of Theology and Religious Studies, the Department of Classical Philology at the Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures, and the Centre for Oriental Studies at the Institute of Cultural Research.
